OK! I've been pondering intimacy with Jesus, and I wonder why some people don't draw nearer to Him. We stand from afar and think that's it. We listen to his sermons on the mount, and go home. But, what about the bleeding woman who pushed through the crowds, just to touch the hem of his clothes. Was she desperate, just to grab him? Yet, Jesus knew that someone had grabbed his clothes in a desperate need to just know his power. Would I have been the one to push the woman away or would I have been that woman? I want to be that woman now!
What about all the children that just wanted to be blessed by him? Yesterday, at New Life Church, Wess Stafford of Compassion International, just brought both of us to tears. Jesus really did love the least of these: the children. In the past, children were seen as nothing. Even now, most of the world sees children as "in the way". Yet, there was something about Jesus that drew the children to him. I know that Hope can scope out an adult that loves children, and she will gladly play with those loving adults. But the ones that are stand-offish don't draw her attention. Jesus must have often played and laughed with the kids. So, when his disciples were shoo-ing them away, Jesus didn't gently get upset. His was indignant. "LET THE LITTLE CHILDREN COME TO ME, AND DO NOT HINDER THEM!" Wow! Why aren't we more like the little children and go and sit on His lap? What is it about being an adult that keeps us so stoic and unable to let him pick us up and hold us close to Him?
This week, I will go and sit on His lap and enjoy intimacy with my Lord. I will laugh, play, and dance with my savior. After all, the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. (Mark 10: 15)
