Christmas was a whirlwind of activities. The weekend before Christmas, we picked up Grandma and Uncle Dave at the Atlanta airport, but not before visiting a friend from China that we had not seen for over 10 years. It was wonderful to see her and her children again; her life has seen so much tragedy, but she holds dear to the Lord Jesus and keeps her head high. Thanks, Lord, for watching our friend and guiding her through sorrow.
For Christmas, Grandma and Uncle Dave visited from San Diego/Panama. Uncle Dave flew to San Diego to take Grandma because she would not have been able to travel alone. She is very frail now, being 87 years old. She's still very well, but her body is slower and weaker.
While they were here, we visited many museums: Andersonville Historical Site (where the Confederates kept the Union prisoners), Hay House (a historic home that survived General Sherman's burning rampage), and the Museum of Aviation. Uncle Dave is a museum lover, so he was glad to see these places.
On Christmas Day, Alex (Lisa's brother) and his roommate, Jeremiah, visited and helped make the best tasting mashed potatoes in the world. They were so helpful around the kitchen, since they are chefs. We kept telling them to go rest and hang out, but we could tell they really loved what they did. So who can complain when there are chefs in the house. It really was so nice to have them come and chat with us and tell us about their lives in busy Atlanta.
This was the first time we'd had turducken, a southern tradition. It's a duck stuffed inside a chicken, stuffed inside a turkey. Then in between each meat, they stuffed sausage stuffing. It was very, very nice. This particular one had the bones removed, but we'd be willing to try one with bones as well. This made us gain another 5 pounds.
| Our Christmas meal: turducken, ham, green bean casserole, mashed potes, gravy, cranberries, spicy rolls, salad, peach praline pie, pecan pie, and ice cream. Not too shabby of a southern meal! |
The entire week that Grandma and Uncle Dave were here, it was raining, so they barely saw the sun. It did stop for a bit on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I think they were glad to get back to warmer weather. Too bad Georgia didn't welcome our guests with warm muggy weather.
